Tazim [‘Taz’], C.D.A.
Stephanie joined the Smile Dental Implant Centre team in May 2014. She graduated from Vancouver Community College in 1989 as a Certified Dental Assistant. Her passion is to make a difference and change lives, beginning with her patient’s smile. She understands the importance of feeling and looking good inside and out, and she feels it all starts with a smile. She looks forward to the patient reaction when they get the chance to look in the mirror for the first time after the completion of their dental work.
Luka joined our team in January of 2015. She has an extensive background in dental assistance in restorative dentistry and a big passion for learning more. She entered our support staff at the MaxiCourse mid-year and has worked hard to integrate herself into the team and our polished, efficient system.
Tazim has a wide range of experience in oral implantology. After graduating from Vancouver Community College in 1986 as a Certified Dental Assistant, Taz joined one of our MaxiCourse graduates, Dr. Trish Hunter, in her office and learned implant dentistry alongside Dr. Hunter, including Dr. Hunter’s MaxiCourse year in 2010/11. In September of 2013, Taz decided to join the UBC staff and is currently running the Grad Pediatric Program. She is still working in private practice on days off from UBC to continue enhancing clinical skills, as she truly enjoys assisting with implant dentistry. This includes working in a Prosthodontic office in Vancouver. In addition, Taz is proud of her volunteer work in dental clinics in Africa in 2011. She has been a member of our MaxiCourse team for two years and her familiarity with UBC continues to be a significant asset to us.
Sasha graduated from Vancouver Community College in 2000 as a Certified Dental Assistant and experienced her first introduction to implant dentistry at the office of Dr. William Liang, our program director, in 2004. She worked at Dr. Christian Len’s office, a GP practice with involvement in implant dentistry, from 2005 to 2008. Sasha is currently temping in dental offices while attending Kwantlen College. She plans to apply to the Medical Radiography Program and Dental Hygiene Program as she pursues future career options. Her familiarity with our director’s approach to implant dentistry makes her an asset to our team, and her positivity and strong work ethic make her invaluable.
When Dr. William Liang began the Vancouver MaxiCourse in 2010 and developed the curriculum, our original CDA’s, Kyla and Varinder, were instrumental in developing a successful surgical component to our program. The systems in place at our office had to be tailored to a different working environment and prepared for any contingencies that arise in surgeries done by implant dental students. Our clinical sessions began at the Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene and are now exclusively run through the University of British Columbia’s Nobel BioCare Oral Health Centre on university campus. Stephanie and Amanda replace Kyla and Varinder as our head CDA’s for the program, and our thanks go to Kyla for spending so much time with our new staff to prepare them for the coming 2014/15 year.
Andrew Gillies is education coordinator for the Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre, AAID Vancouver MaxiCourse, and Vancouver Implant Continuum. He joins us from an education, administration, and sales background. A school educator for the last seven years, he has experience in implementing education and curriculum advancements as well as introducing and expanding upon the integration of developing technologies into educational programs.
Outside teaching, Andrew has worked in a variety of roles in the administration of a laser skin care clinic for three years under Dr. Byron Ham, and he has run his own health and wellness business over the three last years.
Drawing upon his teaching and curriculum development background, Andrew works to make improvements to MaxiCourse curriculum, integrate different learning styles into program delivery, and effectively make use of new technology to improve student learning. He is here to ensure that your educational experience is as personalized and meaningful to each participant as possible.
Andrew works closely with our CDA staff, as well as Dr. William Liang, program director, for support and growing knowledge in all things dental.
